Mark your calendars for May 6! On that day, the Children’s Center will participate in a local online fundraising event called “Give Local 757”.
The Give Local 757 campaign is part of Give Local America, a national day of community giving planned for May 6. It is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the country’s first community foundation.
For 24 hours, on May 6 everyone can be a philanthropist by donating online to registered Give Local 757 nonprofits serving the Hampton Roads region. Donations will be amplified with matching funds and prizes.
The event is being sponsored locally by the Peninsula Community Foundation.
On the day of the event, donors can go to www.givelocal757.org and make a donation on the website using MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover.
The minimum donation is $25.
“This is an exciting event for us,” said Jeff Zeigler, Community Relations Coordinator for the Children’s Center. “Although you can donate directly to the Children’s Center through our website, we have not had a coordinated fundraising effort through an internet campaign. This really is the ‘new wave’ of donating to nonprofits. I think when people see how easy it is to donate this way, it will eventually become the norm.”
All donations of $25 or more qualify for the national Give Local America’s pool of matching funds.
The Children’s Center can also win additional prizes including a 50/50 Early Bird Challenge and grand prize for the most donations.
“The great thing is that although this is a locally sponsored event, anyone in the world can donate to the Children’s Center that day from wherever they might be,” Zeigler said. “As long as you have internet access, you can donate.”
In the coming weeks, we will have more information and reminders on our Facebook page and a link from our website to the campaign page.
